Why I Built Zesst
I was training harder than ever.
And unknowingly destroying my results.
The training was going well
I'd been building my running consistently — hitting 60–70km weeks, completing marathons, improving every race. On paper, everything looked good.
Race results
Monthly km — Jul 2025 → Mar 2026
340 km in March 2026 — peak training month
Garmin marathon race predictor — Jul 2025 → Apr 2026
4:57 → 4:10 /km — pace improvement over 9 months
But something was off
I was constantly tired. Sleep was poor. Recovery was slow. My body composition wasn't shifting despite the high training load. I thought I was eating well — whole foods, nothing obvious.
What I didn't know: my target was 3,800 kcal — I was eating ~2,600. A gap that compounded to an 8,400 calorie hole by Sunday, every single week.
That's your body cannibalising muscle, not burning fat — undoing every hard session and kilometre you ran.
Once I fixed it, everything changed
Within weeks of eating to my actual targets, energy improved, sleep got better, and body composition started shifting. Performance followed.
The frustrating part? The fix was simple. I just needed to know the gap existed.
The result — a massive cellular rebound
Body fat 12% → 9.5% in 3 weeks — same total weight
My chronically starved muscles instantly soaked up depleted glycogen and water stores. Lean mass surged on the DEXA scan — not magical new muscle, but the adaptation from months of hard miles I'd already put in, finally being unlocked.
Sleep improved dramatically
Recovery got faster
Energy levels up immediately
Hard sessions finally paying off

"I built Zesst because I couldn't find a simple tool that told me: are you eating enough for what you're doing? Everything else was too complicated, too generic, or focused on the wrong thing. Zesst is what I wish I'd had."
